As part of a "Manual on Critical Issues in Nanotechnology R&D Management: An Asia-Pacific Perspective" contracted by the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Prof. Alok Dhawan from the University of Ahmedabad (India), a partner engaged into the NanoValid project, recently co-authored the chapter on "Nano-safety, Standardization and Certification", which summarizes our current knowledge on the complex interplay between main nanomaterial and hazard characteristics, and exposure factors and mechanisms that drive the safety and possible risks associated with production, handling and use, as well as disposal of these new materials.
